Combinatorics is at the centre of a variety of areas in pure and applied mathematics. For
instance, in recent years problems arising in algebra and geometry have been better understood
and in many cases fully solved by exploiting their relation to certain discrete objects.
At this school we aim to explore modern geometric techniques that have been used in recent
years to solve long standing conjectures in combinatorics and other areas.

The Theory of Submanifolds emerged as a natural generalization of the classical study of curves and surfaces of three-dimensional Euclidean space through the methods of differential calculus. In the last century, this theory has become a vast sub-area of Differential Geometry with numerous correlated lines of research and a variety of techniques that allow obtaining many deep research results, both local and global.

The goal of this CIMPA School is to train young mathematicians working in Latin America in some of the most active areas of research in Algebraic Geometry, as well as to promote greater interaction among researchers and students, and to build a network of collaborations. The previous editions of the ELGA were:

I ELGA – Buenos Aires and Cordoba, Argentina (2011)
II ELGA – Cabo Frio, Brazil (2015)
III ELGA – Guanajuato, Mexico (2017)
IV ELGA – Talca, Chile (2019)
