The 2021 Bertrand Russell Prize is awarded to Michel Waldschmidt, Professor Emeritus at Sorbonne Université Pierre et Marie Curie and member of CIMPA, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to graduate schools and mathematical research in developing countries, and of his sustained commitment to building bridges between mathematical communities around the world.
Throughout his career, Waldschmidt has worked tirelessly toward the development of graduate schools in more than 30 countries across five continents, both through lecturing and serving on advisory committees.
